Soccer Practice Games: Killer Tips On Game Progression

  • Soccer practice games are immensely important especially in comparison to drills and it’s not hard for someone like me to understand this. To begin with the kids must concentrate only on learning the skills and then improving upon their consistent movement with the ball. However, as they progress with their soccer training, there are a few things that you must observe.

As has already been talked about earlier, kids get an opportunity to develop their own special playing style with having fun when divided into groups. Initially, restrict the size of the groups to very few players which will give them enough freedom to make decisions out of their free will.

Subsequently the kids will fell free to move about in the large and open field, get a feel of the ball more often, and feel liable for the decisions that they make since the players in their group are significantly less.

On the other hand, make sure you initiate changes as soon as the players get comfortable playing in small groups and are improving. Bring in progressions in soccer practice games at this point in time. This means that more players should be added, game rules should become stricter, and make the kids practice in larger fields. Now you must initiate comprehensive strategies that serve the dual purpose of honing individual skills of players along with team’s objectives.

There is something here that needs special mention. Many coaches go wrong when they teach too many things too soon to their kids in the anticipation of preparing them well in advance. Realize that there are no shortcuts to success. It won’t help you to mechanize the process here as it does in soccer drills. It must progress in a natural way slowly.

The tactics may not work well if you are too fast with rules, regulations, and convey too much in a short span of time. This causes problems in their natural learning and growth.

As the kids make a transition from small groups to large ones, they should instill in themselves a sense of camaraderie. It is crucial to understand the difference between focusing on your own skills at one time and then using those skills to win the games for your team.

In this period, along with games, you must also encourage free dialog with your team. Understand that the players have now matured themselves in the game. As a result, it is a blunder to ignore their skills in soccer exercises.

When you invite them to share their views, they feel good about it and become more responsible.

The games should now focus on helping the kids develop game winning strategies on their own. If they put their team above themselves, you have done well as a coach.

Your next step! To take what you’ve just learned and implement in your plan. Soccer practice games make for a valuable tool in soccer training and you must create them in a way so that they help the kids make natural progress.
