Drills For Soccer: 5 Sure-Fire Tips To Teach Heading
-
In performing drills for soccer, don’t you get upset when your players are unable to head the ball well? Heading is the main skill that assists the players in learning to maneuver or control the ball while it is still up and about in the air.
It’s likely that in a match the ball might have to take the aerial route to travel from one point to the other. If the players are able to take the possession of the ball using their head, it shall ensure that the team has control of the ball for a maximum number of times.
There are a few soccer drills that focus solely on developing the heading skills of the players. Let’s talk about a few of them:
Segregate the players in groups of not more than 2 to 3 players ahead of starting with the drills.
Heading volleyball: This is a perfect technique to learn to head the ball. It is simple for two players to perform it alongside each other in such drills for soccer. Herein, the only difference is that players make use of their heads instead of hands to toss the ball over to the other side of the net. Yet, they are free to make use of their hands to serve the ball.
The points are given based on the players successfully heading the ball across the net. Badminton net can be used for performing this drill.
Juggling: This drill can accommodate 2 players like the previous one or even a single player. If there is one player, he or she can use their forehead to juggle the ball. This is the time to pull up your socks, toss the ball in air, and start practicing. Naturally, this exercise among all soccer exercises is the toughest to do and can only be improved upon by practicing.
With 2 players, the ball can be thrown in the air and they head it back to each other. The player who keeps the ball in the air is the winner.
Throwing the ball; have the players stand apart each other by 10 feet. Fling the ball at them and tell them to head it back. Ensure that they jump when they hit the ball. This will help them learn the trick efficiently.
It is important that they are instructed to use their forehead and sides of the head. If they do not understand this, they will have headaches and also may get injured.
To achieve the most from this soccer practice, teach the player to bring their forehead in line with the ball. Then they jump to hit the ball so that the ball gets maximum height.
Now you should incorporate what you gained here in your drills for soccer. You will be amazed by how fast they learn to head the ball.
